Gran Torino

Loved it! Clint Eastwood’s character was fabulous…and you get over the fact that he sounds like Batman. The two main Asian characters weren’t that great, but other than that I have no complaints. There were so many lessons to learn from this movie. I won’t say much else because I want everyone to see it.

Seriously…see it.

The Unborn

D+ rating

So this movie was pretty entertaining because it made me laugh more than scared me. I think the trailer was much more scarier than the actual movie. It was completely predictable and silly. I had high hopes because it was done by the same writers as The Dark Knight and Gary Oldman was in it (whom I LOVE) but it did nothing for me. I am sure guys will get a kick out of it because the leading actress is “hot”. She is not very good, but apparently if you are soft on the eyes, then it doesn’t matter if you can’t act.

There were stupid scenes that didn’t need to be there either, like Odette Yustman in the shower…or in her underwear…or running ALL the time. Yeah, not too scary of a movie and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Bride Wars

C+ rating

This movie was everything it showed in the trailers. It shows how two woman go absolutely nuts before/during their weddings. I laughed…don’t think I cried, but it was entertaining. I related a lot to it because I went a little crazy before my wedding. Brandon didn’t enjoy it and I think it was mainly because it was completely unrelatable for him.

Slumdog Millionaire

A- rating

This movie was based on a novel called “Q&A” and basically tells the story of a young man who gets on a game show and the movie shows how he knows the answers that lead him to willing a million dollars. I really liked this movie mainly because it was different. There is another movie called “City of God” that reminded me of Slumdog in a lot of ways. This is the kind of movie that everyone should see…in my opinion.

A- rating

This movie was beautifully done and was easy to watch. It is 166 minutes long but doesn’t seem like it. All the actors did an amazing job. It was the kind of movie where you can’t think too much about because then you get confused seeing an old lady take care of a young boy she once made love with. But, if you take it for what it is, then it is enjoyable.

B- rating

I enjoyed this movie. Before watching it, my sister and Brandon kept calling it “Mission Impossible with an eye patch”… but I don’ think there was enough action for it to be put in the same category as MI. I enjoyed the story, mostly because I was unfamiliar with it and it brought out my emotions(surprise, surprise, I cried at the end).

I was annoyed at the amount of German accents in the movie (there was only one or two). But other than that, it was good. I don’t think I will ever buy the movie, but I would watch it again if it happens to be on t.v.

MOVIE REVIEWS!!!!

Author: ashley

So I am going to start a “Movie Reviews” section on my blog. This will mainly be an opinion page of what I think about movies I have recently seen. Brandon and I have a hobby of watching tons of movies so I will hopefully have a lot to review. If you would like to also state your opinion on a movie, you may do so. And if there is a movie you would like to tell us about, we do take suggestions.

Enjoy!

It’s the new year, so I figured I should blog.

2008 was a crazy year, and it was full of new adventures:

I got married

I graduated college

I started a “real” job

I got my first tattoo

I (we) remodeled our condo

I inherited a fat cat

Started a business

And I am sure there are more, but those are just the major events. All in all, 2008 was a fulfilling year that seemed almost magical??? (Don’t know if that is the right word but it will have to do). A lot of the major events in my life that I have dreamed about since I was a little girl, occurred during the past year. There is nothing I would have changed about my 2008.  Since meeting Brandon, he has taught me not to regret anything. I may have done things differently (like waited a few more months to get married so I wasn’t so stressed out with school and what not) but I definitely don’t regret anything.

When I talk to people about 2008 most of them complain about the economy or the weather, and  hope that 2009 will be better. I hope so too, but I am not too sure that things will change drastically in one year. I do have a few “goals” for the new year, and would like to share them with you:

1. Go on vacation to the east coast for a week or more

2. Read more books

3. Pay off debt

4. Get a raise

5. Brandon and I will move to D.C. and B will go to GMU (This is technically Brandon’s goal but I hope that it happens)

I have other small goals, but I am leaving 2009 pretty open. I am starting to learn to be okay with change and will be okay with whatever gets thrown my way in the next year.

I hope you all had a memorable 2008 and wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR full of good health and prosperity!
